  just got an email from someone telling me they decided to put the entire unit SOPs into claude "just for fun/as an exercise" with a "can you make this clearer and cleaner" prompt and they have sent me the output telling me how much better it is. I don't know why they've sent it to me, I am not the Ops Officer (who owns the SOPs). I wont be opening the document.

  Showed someone at coasties the engine maintenance learner's guide I'm working on and their first question was "how did you get these diagrams did you put it into AI?" He looked genuinely mystified when I said "I took the low res original and used google reverse image search" A couple of weeks ago another guy asked me "this is really good did you use claude to write this?" The boomers already cannot conceive of doing anything without a chatbot.

  the problem with watching TOS is it makes SNW continuity weird and I get why they had to do it otherwise SNW would be too constrained. I just hope they don't do an "and then all their memories got wiped" SNW story to try and save TOS canon. #KelsTrek

  man oh man, getting tide data for a webpage is a fucken chore, unless you want to be limited to like 10 calls a day or pay real money for a commercial api. The way I was doing it was convoluted, and worked, but relied on another project that turns out is a bit janky and often returns fucked data from scraping the BOM html.   started watching Strange New Worlds, which I didn't realise was linked to Disco (which I watched when it first came out) so I slipped right in to the story. There is a scene in Ep1 where Pike is riding a horse on earth near some wind turbines. Why does earth need wind turbines in the ST universe?

  when I was still serving a descriptor emerged (stolen from the seppos) for the senior enlisted personnel with the longest experience in the org: 'greybeards' I fucken despised it then (and now) since it conveyed unearned gravitas to their opinions, given in the military you can stay as long as you want, you don't get kicked out for having shit ideas, and 10yrs of experience painting rocks is only valuable if painting of rocks is needed. No idea why this has made me mad...

  anyway, I spent 2 hours doing analysis work the commonwealth has paid an external vendor hundreds of thousands to produce and received nothing. I'm not even going to give it to anyone, I just wanted to see how much better a job I could do and how long it would take.
