  This Thursday starts the Model Constitutional Convention at Washington University Law School. I’m intrigued. I’d love to be a fly on the wall. I did note however that the skimpy travel stipends are only paid at the end- & with these gas prices & the tight rental car market(thanks ICE😡) whoever set the budget hasn’t rented a car or pumped gas in 15 years or more. So the students who competed to attend may be representative of a narrower class of folks. #law #constitution #stlouis...

  2/2 Re the Model Constitutional Convention- it’s convenient that the failure of the U.S. Constitution to effectively check Executive power (at least inthe aftermath of money is speech rulings) and to prevent autocratic capture of the judiciary is all on full display for the students envisioning a Constitution. 🧐 #law #constitution #stlouis #wulaw

  I was today years old when I got real clear that democracy never existed on paper. It’s about people. And the deceit of the powerful is that if it’s on paper you don’t have to engage directly, show up, ask questions, and run for office. That gas lighting has been very effective. After all, we can usually find other things to do. Those halcyon days never existed and if we want the right to consent we have to exercise it.
