  This sort of thing is deeply depressing. Pixar’s Toy Story 5 has been a success but still they’re facing big layoffs. This happens in video games too. Creative people are needed to get a project out the door so that it can make money. After that they’re a cost with no return. So they’re fired. The expectation being the next crop will come in and the cycle repeats. Even making commercially successful art is a punishing and perilous professional pursuit.   I made an inquiry to an apartment building in the Bay Area. We were sort of idly thinking about moving. I’ve now received a few texts and follow up emails from one “Ella K”. Who, in their signature, cops to being an “AI Resident Assistant”. My favorite line from Ella K. AI Resident Assistant was, “Are you available for a self-guided tour?”

  When @twenty3 and I were doing our Napkin app we’d put in a multiplier on animation timings. It’d speed them up based on how many times you’d run the app. Not enough for you to notice much but it’d get snappier as your comfort using the app increased.   I remember debating on Twitter if it was a good idea to switch from the Star as the sign of appreciating a Tweet to a Heart. I’d argued it’d make me think twice about faving a Tweet because a heart sends a different message than a star. Women on Twitter were already dealing with a bunch of BS so it felt like it’d amp that up. Anyway, pretty sure that wasn’t the core problem with social media. Got that one wrong.

It went so far beyond the aesthetics of PC cases of the time to address the functional requirement to be able to open it up and add things to it.
