One time I had an ex so toxic that, one day, I was taking a nap and my phone was on vibrate and he couldn’t get ahold of me right away so he called my roommate who told him I was asleep and had my roommate take a photo of me sleeping to prove I wasn’t lying to him or “ignoring” him.

I watched Close Encounters of the Third Kind for the first time last night. That’s was a screwed up movie. The aliens proceeded to implant an image into people’s minds, they go nuts. Specifically Richard Dreyfus’s character goes nuts, his wife leaves him, he smooches another woman and then, in the span of 5 minutes decides to go live on the UFO. It sure is a pretty film, though! Just great to look at.

I’ve been catching up on some reading this week. If you have any interest in the subject, A Rosicrucian Notebook is so good - an actually informative book - which is surprising, considering how little there is on the subject as a whole. Of Course, The Chemical Wedding of Christian Rosenkreuts is entertaining and indispensable but I prefer the translation by John Crowley. “The first science fiction novel,” as it’s called.

It boggles my mind, in 1968, audiences loved the 90 minute move that starts 50 minutes into 2001: A Space Odyssey (The Jupiter Mission). I mean, this is a LONG movie with most of the first 50 minutes serving as a Disney-esque Epcot Center vision of corporate innovation in the year 2001. (Bell Videophones, Howard Johnson’s on the moon, TWA Spaceflights, etc.) I love all of it. I’m just impressed it’s so long and dense and people really enjoyed that in a theater back then.

“The Great God Pan” by Arthur Machen (1894) is a really fantastic novella. All at once a riveting ghost story, horror and meditation of female autonomy and even a pleasantly treated sapphic relationship - albeit one that ends in madness. Sort of proto-lovecraftian. Once you see beyond the veil you are forever changed and can never un-see.

I made this “chicken and corn casserole” recipe last night and it’s great but so weird! The recipe asks you to make a roux then melt cream cheese and chicken broth into it for the binder of the spiced corn and chicken. There was a lot of working time for this recipe but it is a winner. Husband commented that it was almost like eating chicken stuffing. https://www.southernliving.com/chicken-and-corn-casserole-11774777

Hoping I saved my employer a few hundred grand by developing a homebrew Powerpoint and PDF alt-text remediation suite. I’m kinda proud of it! It’s bittersweet because, while it will be really useful and save money, I did it in-between my prime directives to meet the federal deadline so it’s not like I’ll be monetarily compensated. :-/ However - I might be able to persuade them to share it and keep it FOSS which would make me happy.

So this palantir hack, if it’s accurate information, is a little more than scary. If they’re doing this to world leaders, imagine what they’re doing to *gestures wildly at everything* And if an AI agent can already easily get escalated privileges to Palantir servers in order to gather the info.. Excuse me while I have an existential breakdown.

I’m on my second read of “The Mothman Prophecies.” It’s great, fun and more of a collection of myths and examples of cryptids, MIB and UFOs before “the bridge incident.” Buuut I love the movie too! It’s true to the spirit of Keel’s book. I would also recommend the book “The Eighth Tower” by him as well.
