@ronanmcd what's funny is for all the manosphere's use of imagery from the matrix, this is the true wake up and see how deep the rabbit hole is pill.

gonna go out and do some shooty hoops today. the only outdoor #basketball court left in town still hasn't been converted to an empty #pickleball court and i intend to play on it to ensure it doesn't get taken away, too

@gimulnautti @FascistCentre what i don't understand is that this *is* an evil fanatical regime, just like 80 years ago. and just like 80 years ago, this can only get much worse. in the interbellum period there was genocide in Armenia and Ukraine. genocides in small countries always preclude genocides in the imperial cores.

i've mostly stopped using social media, focusing on in person interactions and experiences simply because i'm sick of, as Das Racist once put it, arguing with white dudes on the internet. and i think about that as our admin pushes to require that immigrants maintain an active social media presence for them to analyze. what they really want is to force people to be exposed to white supremacy. #SaturdayThoughts #ThePointOfASystemIsWhatItDoes #USPol #uspolitics

@festal this is who microsoft has always been, and every big tech company for that matter. it's less about technological advancement and more about what the marketing department can convince us we want. it's still possible to strip these people of their power. it mostly comes down to having enough surity of who you are and what you want to avoid getting tricked by hype

@FrancoisPrague @QasimRashid the modern world is best explained by george carlin 20 years ago with a great deal of consistency. and there's still comedians who offer that kind of insight today

@McWabbit i hear you. to me, this is about phases. phase one: make people realize they're not alone phase two: make people realize there is power in banding together phase three: make people realize they can use that power to better their own lives by bettering everyone's lives we are in phase one still. but we might have enough people alert now to that they're not the only ones in their communities who see this and think it's wrong that it's time to emp...

@leftylabourtech @wohali @pluralistic honestly, and education, too. i don't think i had ever considered before that what brings about dark ages throughout history is greedy bastards making the world worse by not realizing their greed was breaking their possessions. but as we enter our modern dark age i find myself hearing the warnings in the media that survived through past dark ages. at least this go around we have a fun word for it. though maybe we've lost past fun words

@gumnos @rl_dane i don't understand how searchable, indexible, browsable forums got so universally replaced by a closed source centralized chat platform. wildest to me are the people who don't like discord for project discussions but still say "at least it's not forums"

@benfell @georgetakei i've come to think of political power and economic power as proxies for the power of violence. the coagulation of influence and capital grants access to bombs, planes, tanks, and guns. meanwhile, those bombs, planes, tanks, and guns can be loaded on ships, sent out internationally, and used to acquire the means to coagulate more political and economic power. the reason education is a threat to all of this, at least in my estimation, is that it helps you see the inte...

@rl_dane @gumnos strong agree. i think there's paths for new forum softwares that are primarily rendered on the backend in python and deployed by docker but i think a lot of the internet's future can be found by looking into its past

today is one of those mornings i suddenly remember i have a mastodon account. i've been feeling less motivated to have a visible online presence of late due to the number of people i encounter online caping for authoritarianism. i prefer being offline and hanging out with anti-authoritarians as we seek better ways of living and being than what the owners of the digital panopticon want to subject us to
