Thinking of not getting a tattoo for my 54th birthday. I've got a sleeve of no tattoos down both arms, and I think not getting another tattoo will fit in well. Aesthetically speaking.

So, a company called "Streamline AI" sent me an email to let me know that they had scraped my personal information from the web and would be selling it on to spammers and scammers UNLESS I wished to use their online portal to complete the takedown request. We know how this goes. I have to pay a fee and then just trust them not to sell on anyway. I emailed them back with an invoice for doing the work, plus a line that receipt of the email indicates agreement to pay up front. It won'...

Just a reminder that in English , "then" is to do with time or order of things, and "than" is comparative. This is important for sayings like "It is better to die on your feet, than to live on your knees." Because of you change that to "then" it's just nonsense. Also, chairs don't have any gender in English. Phew! You just use "the" for everything!

Traveling to work on the Skytrain this morning, there was a woman further down the carriage who had my first name tattooed on her neck. I didn't take a picture because Duh, what would be more creepy? But it was strange. Growing up, after the Omen films, my name was a joke, a punchline. Now it's turning up in unexpected places. A character in the TV adaptation of Day of the Jackal. In Dungeon Crawler Carl. Feels odd. Anyone out there know any Damians?

My wife's having a great Mother's Day so far. Her brother has been airlifted to hospital after suffering a heart attack while hiking a mountain on a Greek island, and now our lawnmower has caught fire. ON the plus side, there's cake....

I'm listening to "Going Postal" again, and I can't help wondering if Mark Carney has read any Terry Pratchett, because he should, he really should: "Unfortunately, the Post Office came to be seen, not as a system for moving the mail efficiently, to the benefit and profit of all, but as a money box. And so it collapsed, losing both mail and money." The Post office, The hospitals, the schools, are not for-profit institutions. Not money trees. Th...

I saw something about supermarkets and some corporations trying out "dynamic pricing", where the price of something changes based on their estimation of what you might pay based on their surveillance of you. So I'm going to announce my trial of "Dynamic payment", where I pay what I think a service is worth, based on my experience. Bad news for Apple TV, for a start. And Amazon Prime owes me money already.

I think one of the saddest things about being on mastodon is seeing the number of posts about trials of UBI, or housing the homeless, or like today, the solar coverings over canals, and knowing you'll see them again and again without them being implemented because some billionaire will lose money he'd never notice.

Isn't modern technology wonderful? I had an MRI on Monday, and thanks to the modern internet, I can access the images only twenty four hours later. So instead of vaguely worrying about what it may show, I can specifically worry about things in the images that I have no idea about. Is that bright spot supposed to be there? Why is that lumpy shape only on one side? Is that a spleen? WHAT ARE THOSE THINGS THERE? Wonderful.

I made this years ago, when I suddenly realised that ANYONE can make things to post on the internet, not just re-post stuff other people have made. That was in the G+ days.

Just had to look up how to spell "MacGuffin". And this is why I don't have any interest in the internet trying to shape itself to my needs, because I have to look up all KINDS of bonkers things, and no computer can predict what they might be. Just give me an accurate search engine, please. And no ADs!
