Wednesday’s Naughty or Nice outlook … don’t believe the bluebird of happiness. Severe weather in the Great Plains. Excessive rain in an arc from Houston to Washington. And unpleasant heat and humidity over much of the country Wednesday. Cue “Stormy Weather” #NastyOrNiceOutlook #SevereWeather

NWS Wakefield Thursday Forecaster’s Discussion Extreme Heat Warnings are issued for parts of Southeast Virginia, including Tidewater, due to expected Heat Indices of 110 or greater. 1) A major heat wave will continue today through Sunday, breaking down by late this weekend. Brushless excitation has long been used in AC TurboGenerators for reliability and efficiency. The trick is to wind two machines on the rotor shaft, the motor armature and an exciter generator. A second stator winding creates the exciter field. This field is controlled to adjust the strength of the rotor field which controls the machine’s back EMF presented by the stator. This trick dates back to the 1960’s. A GE friend introduced me to it in the early ‘80s. https://apple.news/A4e3qYxNJR4iwUZ...

The Regional Greenhouse Gases Initiative is similar to the SO2 market used to manage SO2 emissions that caused acid rain. Keep in mind that the utility customers always pay because that’s where the revenue comes from. If your emissions are lower than RGGI quota, you can sell credits. The idea is to encourage use of lowest heat-rate generation and harvesting of energy from environmental sources (wind, solar, hydro). The trading market worked well for acid rain . https://www.whro.org/environme...

Good thing I still have my winter coat on. That purple on the weather hazard map is a freeze warning. Them’s for agricultural interests mostly that may have plants in the ground — tobacco and peaches especially. Those not treated to overnight freezes can worry about wildfire ignition and spread. That’s the second color ashore. And blowy on the bay and offshore waters. #VAwx @NCwx #greyhounds
