I just watched "The Creator." How come a movie with such great visuals and high production value can be so poorly written and nonsensical? (note to self: read movie reviews before watching them, it's not like you have the opportunity to watch movies all the time these days) #movies

Yes, I'm an old fart. I'm also a teacher of university students, and I see first-hand how replacing paper, pens and books with screens for everything is impacting cognition and learning. (spoiler alert: the act of learning is as much a physical activity as a mental one, and yes, writing with a pen or holding a book and turning its pages are an important part of the learning process) https://fortune.com/article/how-did-us-spending-30-billion-dollars-on-laptops-result-in-first-generatio...

Alright, I reinstalled my PC (with Mint this time). I haven't tested everything, but so far the good news is that Beeper is working with Mint (it didn't with Ubuntu) but I can't figure out how to type in Japanese. I downloaded a bunch of things (fctix?) it tells me that it's working (i.e. I can switch the input method) except that... nope... it's Roman alphabet and only Roman alphabet. Okay, I'm tired, I'm going to bed.

Alright people, it's time for one of the biggest #CrowUpdate of the year! I heard Mr and/or Ms Crow making quite some noise for the past hour or so in the park. Some familiar calls ("where are you! come here!") and some I heard before but I don't really understand. I suspected something and... I was right!!!! Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce you to Junior 1 and Junior 2, 2026 edition!!! ⤵️ #crows #birds #corvids

#CrowUpdate Wow, this morning, Mr Crow was waiting for me on the neighbor's roof, and he even came grab the peanuts in the yard while my son was nearby. He must have been really hungry. But that's not all, when I got home, I saw a crow flying toward my car as I was parking it and it was Ms Crow. She too, came down to pick up peanuts I gave her (the park was too crowded). What's happening? I think the baby(ies?) are ready to leave the nest so Mr and Ms Crow have been watch...

I always liked Rogue One, but never loved it. Not sure why. Maybe the fact that the characters are not developed enough for the most part. However, I just rewatched it for the first time just after rewatching Andor, and it does hit different. In parts because of Cassian Andor himself (who's now more than "fleshed out") but also because of characters like Saw Guerrera or General Draven, etc. And over all, the show is so good that it makes the movie better. #movies #Star...

I just finished my rewatch of Andor. I'm still pinching myself that such a show was every produced and made it to our living rooms and to our minds and hearts. I always have the strange feeling that it will never happen again. #TVShows #TVSeries #Andor #StarWars

I'm watching For All Mankind season 5. I'm a few episodes behind, and what happened in episode 3 surprised me. I mean, not that it happened, but the fact that it happened so early in the season. Beautiful episode, though. ⤵️ #ForAllMankind

When I first moved to Japan, I used to try as many "unknown" (to me) soft drinks I could get my hands on, and then report on whatever social media I used at the time. I haven't done it in years, but yesterday at the supermarket, one drink grabbed my attention. Mostly the "É" in the name. Verdict: imagine a bitter Aquarius, kinda like Schweppes but not carbonated. Not great, but not terrible either. #SoftDrinks #Japan #LifeInJapan

One of the inventions that truly blows me away and that we all take for granted is fabric. Ages ago, people decided to weave strings to create soft surfaces that you could use as clothes, mats and more, and I just can't comprehend how someone had this idea, not just once, but in many parts of the world independently from each other. (okay, now I want to go down the rabbit hole that is the history of fabric, but I don't have the time right now!)
