Probably 25 pounds of winter coats. Entirely too many, I know, but ya got yer Carhartt chore coat, a second Carhartt barn coat, a running jacket, a rain coat, a puffer coat, puffer vest, K-State hoodie, Chiefs hoodie, long car coat for suits (wool blend), waist length peacoat (see Redford, Robert; Three Days of the Condor), Ariat hoodie that’s pretty old and good for chores. A second Ariat hoodie because ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Oh, windshirt, too. Kind of like strata revealing my various careers from C...

I would still like to be able to set the volume of a HomePod by percentage number in a Shortcut instead of the slider control. I know EXACTLY what number is right for NPR in the mornings or the ocean mediation sounds should be and wish to programmatically set the volume and play either. #ios27 #shortcuts

CBS Sunday Morning seems like a cozy watch with coffee and a pastry, but like 60 Minutes and The Evening News it is increasingly a mouthpiece for TFG. Little interstitial moments are right leaning and today we get a puff profile of JD Vance with Robert Costa. Another sad moment.

This is a conversation I had with the Siri app a moment ago. It does work like a “chat bot”. I could’ve interacted via voice too, but typing was better suited for me in this case. Siri as an answer agent is damn good at least for this instance. #ios27 #siriAI

I have been obsessed with this advert since it came out in 1987. It is fairly rare based on my internet searches and finding a good scan is impossible. This is my first go at recreating it with a cleaned up scan of the photo and then resetting the text. The graphic designer did some funky shit with the Apple Garamond typeface. They both stretched it vertically and then slammed the kerning very tightly. I have a version of Apple Garamond, but not all the possible weights and styles they might’ve...

I'm stopping here with this version. I have the photo enhanced to my liking, although if you compare you can see that I removed a window strut/frame that straddled the two-page spread originally. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The typography of the original is just all over the place. I bet Steve Jobs hit the roof if he took time to examine it. Didn't use an em dash in 9–5 in the original, but that glyph maybe wasn't in PageMaker in 1987? Again, the kerning and word spacing in the original...

@vmstan I'm having issues with this setting screen. I created my alias in my new instance and then came back here to move my followers and it is failing. I've double-checked the password and new handle repeatedly.

I have been on Mastodon for several years, and my last #introduction "update" was over 900 days ago. Time for a refresh. I am or have been a farmer, agronomist, graphic designer, software developer, a dad, and a liver transplant survivor. Now, I have pivoted HARD in my third act and am going to open a pool hall in downtown Manhattan, Kansas—home of my beloved Kansas State University Wildcats. :ksu: #emaw https://vincentspoolhall.com #introductions #Apple #gen×

I never thought I’d be furniture shopping for a bar and pool hall. But there I was yesterday at a restaurant supply showroom (turns out there is such a thing) sitting on a variety of tall bar height stools to see which I preferred to sit while shooting pool for an entire afternoon or evening. Trying to achieve a balance between looks, comfort, and durability is a design challenge and oddly tickled my designer brain in new ways.

I need a Ned Ryerson. Starting a new business the size and scope of a 10,000 sq fr pool hall with bar, grill, and basement speakeasy requires at least a half-dozen different insurance policies. I categorically hate the topic but won’t be underinsured when people are relying on me.

I deactivated all my job opening notifications on LinkedIn today. Officially giving up and pivoting to opening my own business. I’m no longer “unemployed” as counted by the Federal Government statistics office. Fuck all you recruiters and headhunters who age discriminate. There’s a special circle of hell for you all.

Print designers: how did you learn about paper stock types, finishes, and weights? Or do you bother yourself with those details? I infinitely curious about the entire workflow and need a primer on this. @glennf #design #letterpress

@AllenFinchum@hachyderm.io I am talking about my beloved Manhappiness! I grew up playing on a 10’ American snooker table. I had to drag a chair up to the table to rack the balls. Stillwater is a great town. I know many alums from my previous career in agronomy consulting.

@AllenFinchum@hachyderm.io I am another step closer to moving 2 hrs west to my alma mater and opening a pool hall. I met with the building owners’ representative Wednesday and it went well. One small step at a time but I’m moving pretty fast. It will have 14–16 tables, kitchen, bar, and a separate speakeasy in the basement with live music on weekends and its own drink menu. I’m taking my ball and going “home”.

Removed the “Open to Work” badge and canceled LinkedIn Premium today. The biggest waste of time and money, period. Go fuck yourself recruiters. You need to get yourself a better job and get out of that dishonest racket. Also, same goes to all people who work in the euphemistic and nearly Orwellian “Humans Resources”. It also sounds like it comes from the Charleston Heston movie “Soylent Green”. HR IS NOT YOUR FRIEND. THE COMPANY IS NOT YOUR FAMILY.

Gas doesn’t go up a nickel or a dime anymore. It jumps 30 cents at a time. I paid $4.30 today totaling over $50 for my little Equinox tank.

If/when I move back to Manhappiness, KS, I’ll have to find new places to hike. Thankfully the Konza prairie is on one side of town and Lake Tuttle is on the other.

Finally a beautiful day after a solid week of sub 70s weather! Hiked nearly 3½ miles in the timber and up on the prairie at the arboretum. Got some sun. Smelled some fresh air. Got dirt on my legs. … got bit by mosquitoes … #hiking

Since September I have applied for literally several hundred jobs. I have had multiple 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round interviews for both graphic & UX design roles—remote, in-person, and hybrid. I recognize there’s something in my resume or character or portfolio that isn’t quite clicking. I can’t change that my career spans 30 years & has meandered where my interests & opportunities led me. I have a strong body of work & three iOS apps in the App Store so I’m not an idiot. I’m taki...
