"The university and its library have been around for much longer than #BigTech." What role can a university library play in achieving greater #DigitalAutonomy at a university? Our director Marjolein Nieboer and communications lead @babetteknauer talk about #OpenAccess, #OpenScience and how we explore open tools like #Mastodon #PeerTube and #OpenAlex. 🔗https://www.rug.nl/jantina-tammes-school/news/2026/interview-ub-digitale-autonomie

In addition to social platforms like Mastodon and Pixelfed, we are exploring whether we can also use an open source platform for our newsletters. We are looking for something privacy-friendly, self-hostable and sustainable over the long term. Right now, Keila and Listmonk are on our list. Have you used (either of) them or other alternatives? We'd love to hear about your experience: what worked well, what didn't and which one you'd recommend? Thanks! #OpenSource #SelfHosting #Fedi...

RE: https://social.edu.nl/@Bibliothecaris/116560693849494475 💜 Dear people in the #Fediverse, thanks for all your feedback! Recurring topics: - #Mastodon share button - #Pixelfed as #Instagram alternative - Use Instagram to point to the Fediverse - Why be on #SocialMedia at all? (Fair point 🙂) Next we're taking all ideas to our local community. We're curious what they think and will report back here. And yes, we're getting that share button!

To stay connected and be visible in #student life we are (still) on #instagram. But the longer we stay, the harder it becomes to defend that choice. It clashes with what we stand for as a #library: trustworthy information, #OpenScience, #DigitalAutonomy & student wellbeing. We want to explore alternatives and open up the conversation about what responsible (online) #communication with students could and should look like. In 2020, we launched the Open Research Award with @oscgroningen, flipping the script on traditional awards by: ➡️ reducing bias ➡️ celebrating #OpenScience practices across disciplines ➡️ moving beyond winners-vs-losers competition. We use a modified lottery to select 3 winners. Every team member of every eligible case study receives a certificate to recognize & reward their endeavour. 🎧 Curious about the story behind it?
