Everyone acts like Mark Carney is the brilliant saviour, bringing his central banking knowledge back to Canada to save our economy. But what is forgotten in that statement is that Canada had a pretty good economy before Globalization. Globalization was built on the premise that corporations (an d countries) could only survive if they continued growing every year. You don't have to tell a kid with a bag of halloween candy that a plan like that isn't sustainable. Or maybe you do...

Met a 98 year old today and asked him what he thought his secret to longevity was. his answer? 2 beers a day. Sometimes he doesn’t finish them both, but he still enjoys them. Always did.

@auxonic@ottawa.place I will never be able to afford this. If my parents didn't have a generous pension to rely on, we would be hooped. I didn't put them on a waiting list for long term care because they could afford to pay and I didn't want to take spots from people who couldn't. Now I wonder how long they'll be able to cover it, if they keep this up.

@pearlrotter@mstdn.ca Given the track record of these two imperialistic fascists, I think anyone who supports this without considering next week, next month or next year is an absolute fool. The UN needs to abolish the security council vetos.

So, I once lived on a billionaires’ island. I have been thinking of writing a book about it for years. It struck me that it was probably what informed my understanding of the world for the last 2 decades. I just always thought that no one would care, like no one cared about the Haitian boat people who often ended up drowned in their waters. Witnessing the stark contrast between those two groups and how not one of the many, many, many people who profited off their misery in the form of chea...

“Vengeance, in my view, is a better way to get over it. There should be punishment; there should be low blows in the form of releasing dirt to show other fairweather caucus members that betrayal comes with consequences. ” So there’s dirt on conservative MPs that should be used to threaten them. How GOP of you. The party of blackmail. How American. How EPSTEIN. #CdnPoli https://apple.news/Ac72uBZJgSWGSGYsjEEj7vw

A friend, who is an expert on the North was contacted by the NYT who was planning an article supporting the US position on Greenland. She spent the entire interview educating the reporter on Greenland and why the US was out of line and then told them to ask their editor some questions. The article has not been published. Don't think your pushback doesn't matter.

A refresher on how tariffs actually work. When a country charges a tariff, it applies to the goods crossing the border into the country. Tariffs are collected from the people receiving the goods. Most imports are by corporations, so they pay the tariff and then pass the cost onto their customers either as surcharges or by raising prices. Why do foreign countries not like tariffs? Because when the cost of their goods goes up, they sell fewer of them, but tariffs don't "cost&...

So Andrew has been arrested. Interesting that he is in trouble for sharing corporate information and not for his abuse of young girls. Les Wexnercwas never even spoken to by the FBI even though he was alleged to have committed crimes against women. If the victims want justice, it is becoming clear that the only way to achieve that is to report on their business related crime. You might actually get some results. Not guaranteed. I hate the paternalistic world that treats crimes against women...

This is so important because it exactly at the heart of the world’s problems. Everything about fascism and authoritarianism is about class. They have spent decades sucking every last cent out of the 99% and exploiting divisions based on religion, race, gender and even attacking refugees, the homeless and the weak who are sick, elderly and children. Fuck the #EpsteinClass they want us dead. https://apple.news/A-j8-H5tsQtq_0A5pvVKQvA

.@idahobucks@mastodon.social @newsopinionsandviews@mastodon.social I remember that story back in 2016 and I remember that the case was withdrawn because the victim was threatened and I remember how the whole world just said, okay and moved on. I remember thinking, wow. She was so brave coming forward and then no one had her back, the “no one” being the “authorities”. The FBI cleared out Epstein’s videos back in 2007 and then they disappeared. They have been covering up for 20 years at least...

@totalclaireity@toot.lgbt You missed the one where if the authorities are advising you stay off the roads, stay off the roads! I do a lot more winter driving than I would like and I keep my car well maintained, with fluids checked and topped up regularly, but during the first snowstorm this season, there was an accident that shut down the highway and the detours ended up being impassable because even the snowplows were not able to see the road to clear them. One local guy on his way home fr...

@Grovewest@mstdn.social @Su_G@aus.social @heidilifeldman@mastodon.social @mattblaze@federate.social The child sex trafficking, while vile and repugnant is not the main element of this story. What is known is that Epstein and Trump held parties, gave men access to young girls and then recorded them. The blackmail is the key to unlocking it all. It is why security clearances look at whether you are subject to blackmail because it is so easy to get people to do your bidding when you have somet...

@jfmezei@mstdn.ca The old Quebec Ontario line through Kaladar went to Toronto and Ottawa and then to Montreal. There was passenger service until the 80s when they pulled out. It is now part of the Trans Canada trail. I live here. I actually KNOW. It was a vital lifeline for Frontenac. When they shut it down because the city people weren’t using it, people who relied on the train for jobs in Oshawa- they had to move creating ghost towns and decimating the economy because who cares about rural...
