Republican women are increasingly open to giving up their own right to vote. The power of religious fundamentalism is immense. These mini-interviews are must-see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSz1txJEyv8

@mattsheffield@mastodon.social Ok....but can we talk about the anemic size of that crowd? I've been to bigger weddings

  • @mattsheffield@mastodon.social they can already either vote like their husbands or stay home. They want to give up *other* women's right to vote.

@mattsheffield@mastodon.social Those women can just stay in the kitchen and not vote. It's already 100% in their power to do so. And I won't attempt to impinge on their freedom - I would not try to stop 'em from not voting.

  • One thing I'm sure you've noticed if you know Republican women is that almost without exception, they are extremely religious. Out of the scores of Republicans I've known over the years, I knew many men who were non-theists. The women almost never were. That's because selling misogyny to a secular woman is basically impossible. But if you can get her to think that repressing women is what God wants, then you have her.

If it's obvious to you that these women voluntarily not voting weakens their chances of getting a more conservative country... ...then kindly consider the possibility that lefties voluntarily not voting also weakens their chances of getting a more progressive country. @mattsheffield@mastodon.social @Npars01@mstdn.social https://mastodon.social/@mattsheffield/117516225845738102 mattsheffield@mastodon.social - Republican women are increasingly open to giving up their own right to vote. @mattsheffield@mastodon.social Is it really so surprising? There is little people avoid more aggressively than thinking and anything that might require thinking, like voting, could only be second. It's the basis of religion, of brands, of brands of religions, and on and on. So many Faustian bargains, so little time.

@mattsheffield@mastodon.social "I don't want to vote for a party that will tell my son to cut off his penis" Good news ma'am. There's no such party. But more to the point, I'd be scared at parenting that would raise a son who would cut off his penis if a political party (of all things) asked him to.
