The Irish Government have launched a consultation with the public about their Digital Wallet with 10 questions. This is not exclusively a tool for age verification and could be a critical tool in everyday life. I think absolutely everyone in Ireland should engage in it. Concerned about privacy? Concerned about what happens if your phone breaks? Concerned about forcing people to have a Google or Apple account to access Government services? Voice it all. #mastodaoine https://www.gov.ie/en/department-of-public-expenditure-infrastructure-public-service-reform-and-digitalisation/campaigns/welcome-to-the-government-digital-wallet/

There is a question about trust and understanding. We need details of scenarios that are not ideal. What happens if your phone breaks or is lost? Are documents lost forever? What does a recovery process look like? What happens if your phone is stolen? If a bad actor is trying to acquire a victim’s digital wallet for identify theft, what safeguards stop them from doing so? Does this make phishing targets more valuable? [1/2]

Some items that are important to me and I will list as concerns, that might inspire ye: Open source and transparency is essential The wallet should be accessible by users of GraphineOS and other android forks Direct distribution of the app would be a welcome option and not exclusively Google Play dependent. Privacy concerns relating to who can see who I share my details with.

@coraven@mastodon.ie @otfrom@functional.cafe sounds like Ireland and Germany are making the same mistakes, and just a few weeks after the EU had this great idea for digital sovereignty so users didn't have to rely on USA-jurisdiction companies like Apple, Google and Microsoft 🤦 https://mastodon.social/@pojntfx/116345677794218793

@coraven@mastodon.ie I thought it was clear from the EU mandate that use of the digital wallet cannot be made mandatory, that there must remain offline alternatives. So nobody is forced to have an Apple or Google account to access public services. Of course having to have an Apple or Google account to access public services with the digital wallet is bad enough. And how well that requirement in general stands up to reality is an open question.

@coraven@mastodon.ie System requirements would be useful. Yesterday I read somewhere that it needs iPhone 8 and upwards. My 2nd hand phone is too old. Will they supply phones for this?
