Next time someone calls themselves a 'futurist', maybe read the futurist manifesto they're alluding to.. "We will glorify war—the world’s only hygiene—militarism, patriotism, the destructive gesture of freedom-bringers, beautiful ideas worth dying for, and scorn for woman. We will destroy the museums, libraries, academies of every kind, will fight moralism, feminism, every opportunistic or utilitarian cowardice." Btw the techno-optimist manifesto quotes and references Marinetti who wrote both the futurist and fascist manifestos

@yaxu@post.lurk.org I agree, and I would never. but what about afrofuturism then? has this term escaped the Italian fascist load?

@yaxu@post.lurk.org I agree that the Futurists were terrible people (albeit sometimes hilarious). But there are also futurists, people who are thinking about the future, who are not Futurists.

@yaxu@post.lurk.org they are giving techno, optimism, and the future a bad name!

  • @yaxu@post.lurk.org when studying the history of sound art etc. ages ago at uni their dreadful fascistic inclinations wasn’t even touched on. I did feel for the lecturer though; other excerpts re incorporating “any” sounds into music seemed an important early stage to later history, and he had such limited time to fit such a large swathe of how ideas connected.
