I grew up with Coke/Pepsi/etc., and it was called pop. Soda was always meant to be soda water. The first time I heard someone say, &quot;Do you want a soda?” and handed me a Dr. Pepper, I was taken aback. All these regional things. (yes, I&#39;m trying to keep my mind off the news…)

@Cliff538 My grandma also called it a davenport. I call it a sofa, although I have heard some call it a couch. And yes, pop is called pop. A soda is when you have pop with ice cream in it. (My vocabulary is based in central/western New York State, with some residue of Canadian childhood.)

@Cliff538 ooh davenport is old timey. Chesterfield is what I use. Pop for me, kids are hard into soda. Sounds American to my ears.

@Cliff538 It's always been pop for me. I grew up with chesterfield and couch used interchangeably. One regional thing was back in the day a lot of bars would have a window for buying cases of beer, we called that the vendor. As in going to the vendor to buy a 12. When I moved to BC nobody knew what I was talking about.
