It's that time of the year again: the #Linux distro tier list! Of course, it's all subjective, linked to my own use case, don't feel attacked if your favorite distro isn't as high as you'd like, yaddi yadda :D https://youtu.be/dJKne9nWVLk

  • @thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social Given the recent news this video would have been great timing for a parody french linux (its just using wine for everything even when not necessary)

    @thelinuxEXP *Fake outrage* "How dare you leave out {{ insert niche distribution here }}? Worst video ever!!!" Just kidding. Good video. I didn't agree with every decision (mainly because I don't like Fedora), but that's ok. I'm glad there are people who like it!

    @thelinuxEXP Was kinda expecting an April Fools' edition. I'd rank the distribution of my choice a little higher, of course, but it looked pretty solid. 😀👍

    @thelinuxEXP BOUUUUUUUUUUUUU No Debian testing. Debian with a bit of weirdness. Perfect until it breaks 😂 Still my preferred distro as Mint is just too old.

    @thelinuxEXP @WastelandWandrr I’ll read it when it’s on Mastodon. Meanwhile, I’m happily using Mint.

    @thelinuxEXP I will use this opportunity to recommend Ultramarine to you, which I've discovered recently. It's based on Fedora, but much easier to approach for new users, without requiring extra setup. Somewhat similar to what Mint is to Ubuntu. Since we have similar preferences I figured it could fit you. Also, you rally should have put Windows 11 at the top for April Fools!

    @thelinuxEXP I think #MXLinux deserves a better rating.

    @thelinuxEXP When I hear "#Slowroll", it always makes me think of a dessert or cake. Similarly, whenever I heard the name, "#Crunchbang", I always thought of a tasty breakfast cereal. 🙂

    @thelinuxEXP But with backports, Flatpaks, AppImages, and even Snaps - surely this takes away any real issue[s] with using #Debian as a Desktop OS [even with it's slower release schedule]?

  • @thelinuxEXP I agree with Linux Mint: it’s the perfect distribution for a new user. However, as you gain experience, you start wanting more control over the system and feel the urge to remove things you don’t need. For me, Debian STABLE with KDE Plasma is exactly what I was looking for: I don’t need to “get excited” about the latest version of a program; I just want to turn on the computer, do what I need to do, and turn it off. Debian with Plasma does exactly that: the system is stable, the environment just works, and it’s customizable. I wouldn’t recommend Debian for a new user (you sometimes have to tinker in the terminal), but ultimately, this is it. Alternatively, I might choose openSUSE, but the Leap version 16 is pretty weird (starting with the messed-up installer), and Tumbleweed can sometimes crash.
