@gsuberland@chaos.social yeah on closer inspection, I'm realizing that its not actually better armor pen, but the added explosive damage is VERY good. I've noticed with all of the AP-HE rounds I used on base assaults on my first base, that it would be quite easy to blow off a limb, or in the case of automatroid raids, blow off armor plates, limbs, sensors, etc.

@da_667@infosec.exchange yeah, it's decent. the main thing that keeps me off it for defence is the damage stray rounds cause to the base. but that's hardly a concern on a sniper rifle. for full auto in particular it can kick ass, because missed shots can still turn into explosive damage if they land near to the target.
