@glasnt This is really powerful. It's not enough to just assume that everybody that arrives in a space has the same values and way of being. When you notice your culture is in a good place, you also have to protect it.

@glasnt @Perl conferences need to do this. For ~99%, this is no problem. But there's That Guy. Anyone who was in Toronto last month likely *knows*. Aeons ago at a Perl conference (YAPC, it was called then), I sat down with some devs who were bagging on PHP. Shortly, one of them said, "I wonder if PHP devs bag on us like we do on them?" My response: "Yes, we do." TRASH TALKING OTHER LANGUAGES IS MEAN, DIVISIVE, COMPLETELY UNPRODUCTIVE, AND MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE A FOOL.

@glasnt Bravo, #pyconau ! As someone who believes tech is for everyone, seeing organizations address some of the toxicity and barriers in the tech community always makes me think higher of the organization/conference/language.

@glasnt I wish they also wouldn't assume anyone *is* a programmer. (Not being a programmer and hanging out with programmers a lot, I've been on the receiving end of that assumption too often)
