Are there any books or courses specifically focused on filling in gaps in knowledge for music theory? Exhaustive references don’t help me to teach myself and beginner course and books “from the beginning” are a bit too basic.

@mathias@metalhead.club What helped me most was reverse-engineering real songs — figuring out *why* a song uses a bVII or a borrowed chord, not just memorizing scale degrees. I use chordroom.com (260k songs, ad-free) to browse by genre and spot patterns. Seeing how jazz uses ii-V-I vs pop vi-IV-I-V made theory click way more than textbooks. Also worth checking out Hooktheory TheoryTab for the analytical side!
