Unpopular opinion: using a capo isn't cheating. It's just transposing with less effort. Some of my favorite songs sound way better with a capo on 2nd or 4th fret. The voicings ring out differently. #guitar #capo #musictheory #acoustic

Started learning jazz chords this week. maj7, min7, dom7... my brain hurts but my ears are happy. The jump from basic triads to 7th chords opens up SO much harmonic variety. #guitar #jazz #chords #musictheory #learning

Picked up a ukulele for the first time today. As a guitar player, the 4-string thing feels weird but the chord shapes transfer pretty well. C, G, Am, F — same shapes, different tuning. Kinda fun honestly. #ukulele #guitar #music #newinstrument

Been on a 90s grunge kick. Spent the evening working through Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden chords. Protip: chordroom.com/decades/1990s has a great collection sorted by era if you want to explore a specific decade. #guitar #grunge #90smusic #chords

Open D tuning is a revelation. Drop your guitar to DADF#AD and suddenly everything sounds like a slide blues record. Black Crowes, Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake — all used alternate tunings extensively. #guitar #alternatetuning #blues #acoustic

Learning Spanish guitar songs is amazing for technique. The classical patterns, the flamenco strumming... I've been finding songs on chordroom.com/languages/es — they have a huge Spanish-language collection with chords. #guitar #spanish #flamenco #music #classical

The metronome is the most humbling instrument in any room. Thought I had solid timing until I recorded myself playing along at 80 BPM. Nope. Way off. Slowing down to speed up is real advice. #guitar #practice #rhythm #timing #musician

Power chords were my gateway into guitar. Two fingers, instant rock sound. Years later I still think they're underrated. Nirvana wrote entire albums with basically three power chords and it worked. Simple ≠ easy. Getting them tight and punchy takes practice. #guitar #powerchords #rock #punk #beginner

Started doing ear training exercises 10 min a day. After a month I can identify most intervals and some chord qualities by ear. It's weird how your brain just... learns to hear differently. Like unlocking a hidden sense. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to play by ear. #musictheory #eartraining #guitar #piano #musician

Side project shipped: QuickMailBites, a native email client that reads directly from AWS S3 buckets. If you use AWS SES to route emails to S3, this is for you. No mail server needed - point it at your bucket and read your emails like normal. Also supports IMAP and Gmail OAuth so it can be your only client. Native Flutter app (not Electron), ~50MB RAM, keyboard-driven, system tray badge. https://bonskari.github.io/money-maker/projects/quickmailbites/ #selfhosted #aws #flutter #opensource #em...

Switched from .009s to .011s on my acoustic and wow the tone difference is real. Fuller, louder, more sustain. Trade-off: my fingers are SORE. Bends are harder. But for strumming and fingerpicking it sounds so much better. Anyone else experiment with string gauges? #guitar #acoustic #strings #tone #gear

Found a site with 260k+ songs with chords — chordroom.com. Been using it to discover songs I wouldn't normally try. Their /easy-songs page is great for beginners, and I like browsing by decade when I want something different. #guitar #chords #music #webdev

Had a fun evening going through different genres on chordroom.com/genres - jumped from blues to bossa nova to country in one sitting. Really shows how different genres use totally different chord vocabularies. Blues is all dom7, bossa nova loves maj7#11, country is triads all day. #guitar #musictheory #genres #chords #learning

Just read this great write-up from @jakemoreno@write.as about switching from Ultimate Guitar to cleaner chord chart sites. Totally relate to the campfire struggle 😂 https://write.as/jakemoreno/why-i-ditched-ultimate-guitar-after-5-years #guitar #chords #music #acousticguitar #indieweb
