There&#39;s something satisfying about having a real #Debian #Linux desktop on my new Thinkpad. It feels so much simpler and more straightforward to manage than some of the Debian-derivatives I&#39;ve been using. I was on Pop!_OS for the longest time, on both a laptop and my main desktop, and it was solid, but the lack of updates and focus on Cosmic has really taken away from having a solid reliable and predictable desktop experience (sadly). Debian is just rock solid, predictable, easy to manage, and simple without being limited. There&#39;s a reason it&#39;s a standard.

Side-note, since upgrading my well-established desktop from Pop!_OS 22.04 to 24.04 removed basically all of my packages and software, there's now no reason for me not to restore my /home directly on top of Debian there either. I expect I'll do that, and move all of my systems to a standard setup. Which, now that I think of it, would be an ideal use case for NixOS..... no. No.

@trisweb I tried tried libreelec for my media player, but I decided I wanted to run more than just kodi. Debian booting into kodi let me set up kdeconnect and program my bluetooth remote. Ram and ssd prices also mean I didnt want to spend the ram overhead to virtualize w/ proxmox on my minipc cluster... #Debian strikes again

@trisweb Right there with you. I stopped hopping once I put Gnome on Debian. Everyone has their own preference, and that's mine. #FOSS #FLOSS #OpenSource #Linux #Debian #Gnome
