hi mastodon, I found a documentary on the internet about some people who built a replica bronze-age ship (based on the Argonauts story) and rowed it around. it was an adventure with the twists and the turns, and also the shipbuilding. https://www.cultureunplugged.com/documentary/watch-online/play/54787/Argo-Navis

this blog post has more pictures of the replica Argo, its study model and more (mostly hypothetical) details about other bronze-age ships. note that we don't have a whole lot of particulars on bronze-age ship building - landscape paintings on frescoes and doodles on pots are major sources for the details. there's a few shipwrecks to look at but I think most of them are rounder merchant vessels and not sleek galleys (like the Argo). https://medium.com/the-bronze-age/the-bronze-age-ancestry-of-ancient-sailing-vessels-ffa9b7effd17

aw, wow, when I was in college i was on a short crew team (unusual!) and a trireme experiment told us we’d have free food and lodging if we could get to Greece and learn how to row it I do not do well in heat and needed a summer job but still a little regret not going Rumor was they rammed a tourist boat that came inside the lines, because when a shell finally learns reverse it’s VERY FAST. @floatybirb
