So just so we&#39;re clear, my iPhone running last years iOS and I get to choose: Upgrade to Ugly Glass or risk exposing basically everything on the phone including passwords to any web site. Wow, that&#39;s really an impressive new low for Apple.

@peternlewis I think that sums it up nicely. Ugly Glass (great term) is, imo, a dreadful triumph of Apple GroupThink. I’ve reached the point where I don’t want options to dial it down, I just want to revert the UI to something designed by an adult.

@peternlewis sloppy reporting, as usual. Google has a more in depth analysis, with a lot more information on the specific versions of iOS that are affected. TL;DR It doesn’t seem to affect 18.7.3 at least (might also not work on 18.7.2 given that CVE-2025-43520, which DarkSword uses, has been patched in .2). https://cloud.google.com/blog/topics/threat-intelligence/darksword-ios-exploit-chain

@peternlewis Remember when Apple was the paragon of #UIDesign? 😥 I was using my aunt's iPhone yesterday and couldn't for the life of me figure out how to access the tabs on safari on iOS 26. I had to go into the settings and turn on the regular footer bar. Firefox (and forks) on Android have this beat: The footer appears until you start scrolling, and then reappears the second you scroll up for a bit. Done. Fixed. Almost perfect. No need for ridiculous inscrutable UI.

@peternlewis you could turn on lockdown mode and avoid this entirely. In daily use it barely affects anything other than links in messages and receiving files via messages.

@peternlewis I'm in the same boat, and can't even update to 18.7.n from the vulnerable 18.5! My wife upgraded accidentally and now can't do lots of things she used to be able to (I'm sure they are there, just hidden away).
