The contraction of children’s independent activity since the 1960s has made them markedly less resilient. Over several decades, children’s freedom to play and explore without adult intervention declined, while rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide among young people steadily climbed. #Depression #1960s https://siliconcanals.com/d-psychology-explains-people-who-grew-up-in-the-1960s-arent-just-tougher-they-developed-a-specific-kind-of-resilience-that-comes-from-being-raised-in-an-era-when-emotional-comfort-wasnt-cons/

  • @mimarek I left home at age 14 in 1968. I have been living alone for the last 2 decades are you trying to say this is not normal?

@mimarek Excellent article, and I believe it's valid. I've been at a loss to understand why so many people seem to cling to a helplessness, are unable to adapt to changing circumstances, and it has been really irritating to witness. Back in the day, we lived without "helicopter parents". We learned to survive on our own, to analyse situations and problem-solve. (The concepts in this article also apply to those growing up before the 1960s ...before the research )
