Long time ??? first time caller, #Monsterdon help desk: If I am drawing a Gojira art & can watch one media for creative reference: which do you recommend & why? I’m more interested in cool &/or silly monster and nuclear/social critique than excellent graphics or acting. I like immersive world building, but getting a good grasp on depicting zilla is most important here. Also open to other tips/links/refs for how to do a good jira / what to avoid. TIA! 🗼 #MonsterArt #Kaiju #KaijuArt #ArtHelp

Does #Gojira navigate/come out of fresh water or just salt water? Is Washington DC a reasonable city to smash? (~41 miles from Chesapeake Bay but super close to the “Tidal Potomac” River which is wide and looks a lot like a bay?) #monsterdon help please & thank you Fun fact: Since 1996, the Potomac has been the 'sister river' of the Ara River of Tokyo, Japan! #kaiju #monster #godzilla

@moss just a random opinion - ones i've seen recently with what you're asking for are "Return of Godzilla (1984)" which really has some of-the-era nuclear feels. also a lot of 80s Japan - journalists, hospital rooms, weird science, military and government scenes. a great suit with close up cybernetic head shots. then "Shin Godzilla" which is more modern with a few evolutions of Gojira to draw from, kinda creepy and intense, very much a social satire of Japanese bureaucracy

@moss I think this depends on art style. Basing off of the original Godzilla would probably invoke a feeling of nostalgia and probably restricted to monochrome. The showa and heisei era films are going to be a good reference for anthropomorphic godzillas with a sillier style. The millennial godzillas are still anthropomorphic, but a little more serious-looking. Either Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II (heisei) or Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (millenial) would be a good choice for lighting. The reiwa era films departed from the era of actor-in-suit godzillas with their own unique style. The “no true scotsman” answer is to restrict only to Tōhō films because Hollywood godzillas are not considered godzillas, but their own kaijū.

@moss I always liked the design of the original Gojira. In particular, I like the look of its face in the scene where Gojira's head appears over the top of a hill on Odo Island. It's early in the film when Gojira is causing havoc at the little fishing village on the island.
