@LauraleeDukeshire@mstdn.ca I 100% agree with you Forcing the CBC to have one foot in the public world and one in the private (by requiring them to raise approximately half their budget through advertising) compromises their role as being a public broadcaster. The only changes I'd like to see would be: 1) An enhanced ombudsman office to ensure journalistic integrity and prevent the CBC from being taken over for propaganda 2) A constitutional amendment cementing the role of the CBC and ensuring it's future funding. Without this it always will be at risk of a politician defunding it and thus is always going to be under pressure to provide coverage that is acceptable to politicians rather than holding politicians to account as it should.

@LauraleeDukeshire@mstdn.ca Oh yes indeed. And a new board of directors. Or, importantly, a new board of directors, and full funding. #cbc #cdnpoli

@LauraleeDukeshire@mstdn.ca CBC should also somehow be protected somehow from coercion by whichever party is in power. Not sure how this could be done? In this day of social media "news" we desperately need an independent source.

@LauraleeDukeshire@mstdn.ca Totally agree in times like those when billionaires own most of the #media, #publicservices are more than ever important. #RadioFrance
