In this photograph, PM Mark Carney is touring the Government Operations Centre - the nerve centre that leads the “integrated federal response to all-hazard events of a national interest.”
The workforce there has been cut in half thanks to Carney’s public service cuts, from 100 to just 50 workers.
In other words, to advance major projects “in the national interest” (like pipelines and military hardware), the PM has slashed the number of public sector workers who coordinate the response to emergencies “of a national interest”.
As Sharon de Sousa of PSAC says,
“Gutting it by almost half puts people across the country at risk, including frontline workers who are battling wildfires, supporting evacuations and risking their lives.”

@avilewis@mstdn.ca Does the NDP see nation building projects as important? If no, how would the NDP makr a more robust and resilent Camada? If yes, how would the NDP projects be different than the liberal projects? How would that get funding?

@avilewis@mstdn.ca Typical boss who hasn’t a clue what all the workers actually do but is absolutely sure everything good that happens depends on himself. And maybe a few senior managers. and everything bad is, of course, the front line workers’ fault. In other words, he’s too privileged to be competent.
