Have you heard the protest solidarity phrase "don't split"? If you havent before, now you have What does it mean? We get it from Hong Kong, and it means "When you share the goal of a group of protestors, do not crtiticize their methods of resistance" Doing so is tone policing, it delegitimizes the cause and gives the oppressor grounds to disregard and retaliate against resistance members You dont have to like protestors' methods to support what theyre after From now on, whatever you do (Especially to my fellow Americans) DO NOT SPLIT

@Irenetherogue In England, Spliting means informing generally among children, a case of one language two meanings

  • @Irenetherogue Does this apply to method only or to "content" as well? Today, for example, I did not go to a protest because the organisers specified that it should only be about Austrian and European right-wing politics (that which is being protested against); thus omitting the whole Middle East and the US, which did not sit right with me.

@Irenetherogue "Tone policing" covers a lot of ground. But, really, the need to not criticize methods of resistance depends a lot on their method of resistance, non?
