@dfx There's a reg key where you can change Windows to progman. Persisted up until Windows 7 if I remember right. Not sure if its still in Windows 10/11.

@dfx Even better you could tell 3.1 to use another application instead of progman, which, because there was no memory, was quite efficient.

@dfx windows retains the ability to switch shells. This was a used by things like Novell for their Windows based platforms.

@dfx This option also exists in the regular Windows 95 setup, even without updating. 😃 And I think WINFILE.EXE was included until Windows 2000/Me.
