It's really hard to hear about how helpful LLMs are when I deal with the opposite multiple times per day now. There are techniques experienced developers use to get better LLM results, but that's not simple and so approximately no one does it. Everyone who talks about how to use them correctly is a rounding error compared to the total number using them.

    @davidism most of my experience with them is at work. And while I believe I get some good use out of them, I am also faced with truly terrible PRs that are clearly generated rather than written. The ability to generate massive quantities of almost-decent-at-first-glance code and prose is truly unparalleled. I'm sorry you (and so many others) have to deal with this shit.

    @davidism At least on Mastodon, I only see people complaining about outdated hot takes and misquoting white papers they don't read. I think we should switch timeline people we follow 😬

    @davidism LLMs ARE a tool that is VERY easy to use poorly. And I'm sure as an open source maintainer, you see a LOT of that. I'm working on learning to use them well. But I didn't have a proper way to express that until I saw this quote. https://fosstodon.org/@kojoidrissa/116122994155994991
