I figured something out today which I need to document... As an #autistic person, why is being alone so vital for me? It's because when I am alone, I'm NOT atypical, divergent or different. I am only different relative to other people, and if they are not present, nor are my differences. I'm just me. My differences are my biggest stressor, so...it's inevitable that solitude is the only environment that allows me to truly decompress. #neurodivergent #neurodivergence #autism #actuallyautistic

@drewtowler @meyltje its also because there isnt someone there to judge how you act when youre alone, to point out how "different" you truely are.

@britt @drewtowler I'm asking this question as a (mostly) neurotypical curious about your experience, if it's an offensive question, or one you hear everyday, I apologize in advance :) But is the conclusion you drew the only one that fits? To what degree would the situation change if, say, another person was with you who, rather than making you feel atypical, allowed you to be who you want/need to be by letting you set the circumstances of interactions, as it were?
