It's not the hood or the slur you need to be watching for. It's the assumption you made before anyone said a word. The spot you took because you felt entitled to it. The decision you deferred because you couldn't hold your own position when someone pushed back. The language you used to describe a situation that made you the reasonable one and everyone else a variable.
None of that requires malice. All of it causes harm.

This is not about whether you're a good person. Nobody cares about that. It's about whether you have built the capacity to see what you're doing in real time, to take accountability when you cause harm, and to repair it. That is what a consistent, demonstrated antiracist practice actually means. Without it, you are not safe to be around. That's not an accusation. It's a structural reality. Your lack of awareness doesn't protect the people around you from the harm you cause.
