I'm cancelling the growatt order I guess. I don't truly need it if it works like this, and if I can use this thing until it actually dies then I will at least be able to avoid a piece of e-waste happening while keeping my solar array from decade old salvaged parts working. Ideally I replace both the inverter and the panels at some point with newer ones, but right now I can get 700w out of this (once the second string is attached) basically for free.

second string connected, about 650w of actual output right now, not bad for a nearly free setup of 10-15 year old reused parts (6x SolarFrontier 165Wp + SMA sb2500) that isn't even aligned with the sun (just lazily mounted on the shed)

@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz its tricky - looking at the manual it has the option of MPP or constant voltage - could the constant voltage be set to a 300V? (https://files.sma.de/downloads/SB2500-11-EE4801.pdf page 34) Time for connecting up a rs232 cable? (luckily it doesn't need control lines, just tx, rx and gnd)
