I want to draw pinup art of naked animal people that's the right size to set as a desktop wallpaper.

A standard format of 8" x 5" at 300 ppi ought to do the trick. And if my understanding of printing digital artwork is correct, that ought to fit perfectly onto a half letter sheet with a 1/4" margin. I'm not going anywhere near full-bleed printing until I know what the heck I'm doing with the bare basics.
