๐ here are a bunch of resources for finding public domain and creative commons licenses materials you can use, just check the license first: https://search.creativecommons.org/ https://collections.si.edu/search/results.htm?fq=data_source%3A%22National+Portrait+Gallery%22&q=&media.CC0=true https://doodlemancy.dreamwidth.org/20757.html https://openverse.org/ https://morguefile.com/ https://www.pexels.com/ https://pixabay.com/ https://guides.nyu.edu/video/PD-CC https://pdimagearchive.org/ https://historicengland.org.uk/images-books/archive https://unsplash.com/ https://archive.org/details/publicmovies212 https://publicdomainreview.org/collections/source/internet-archive/ https://search.nal.usda.gov/discovery/collectionDiscovery?vid=01NAL_INST:MAIN&inst=01NAL_INST

@limebar@mastodon.social Or you can just do it badly tbh. I will appreciate a stick figure drawing 1000x more than whatever slop a diffusion model spits out.

@limebar@mastodon.social You can do a lot of cross-disciplinary stuff without much hardware, too. I do most of my work from a smartphone. I write books. I make artwork for my books, using a Linux container on my phone that has Blender/GIMP/Kdenlive on it. Is it a little janky? Sure. Is it still satisfying as fuck to see come together? Definitely. And all of this helps me write. A lot of related media was me going "what would this look like" or "I need a chart for this" and once I worked out the visual particulars... well, now I can just look at that for the prose and just describe a thing I can see. And *then* I can use it for videos. Or cover art. Or whatever I can dream up. I honestly just lack money to get a 3D printed model of the ships I've imagined. Not 'I lack money to have a guy design it'. Nah. I have the digital model. It's done. It can be printed. I've had to make do with a poster on my wall. And that's... honestly pretty cool, isn't it? I have no formal training. I have a retail job that barely pays housing. And I can bring my ideas to reality. And I *don't* need AI.
