Oh, interesting. As I hit the POST button on that one, they got up and left. Their car was right outside, so I saw them getting in: she got in the driver's seat. Ordinarily, I wouldn't notice that sort of thing; I think strict gender rules for e.g. who drives are stupid. But based on their "conversation", it makes me wonder if he feels like there are things he has to compensate for. Like not having a license, or his own car, or as good a job as hers so he could afford to get his own car...

    And they idled in the spot for a couple of minutes while I was writing that follow-up, but then they backed away and then pulled forward to leave the lot, crossing my view again, and it looked like she was giving him the what-for. She's driving, speaking very animatedly, and since the car's going in a straight line, her hands are off the wheel, gesturing, and she's literally leaning into whatever she's saying. FWIW: I have no idea what they were talking about, so this is all my own imagination.
