We just discovered it wasn’t the 21 year-old smoke detectors failing, although after 21 years they need a replacement so it’s just as well we replaced them. Rather, it was the 16 month old smoke detectors in the basement… which include AA batteries. Fuck. So there’s some yearly maintenance we’re going to have to remember to do.
The new smoke detectors we installed tonight just recharge off of the wiring. Much better.

Yet another update: it went off again after changing the battery. I think it’s actually detecting smoke from the poor air quality in BC. I’ll have to go see if I can install some passive air filters that are strong enough to filter out the shit from outside.

@tewha@appdot.net Around here, the advice for battery powered detectors is to change the batteries when we change the clocks.
