🎱 What AI "coding" can do to your mental health Today: (Somewhat) famous game developer George Broussard (worked on "Duke Nukem 3D", "Rise Of The Triad") Feels the need to tell the world he is currently out of tokens after a "5 hour session". Gets a snarky reply => directly has a breakdown and lashes out. If AI "coding" is so amazing, why does it make these guys be so "on the edge" & aggressive? Shouldn't they be happy & relaxed? @duke_of_germany@mastodon.gamedev.place @davidgerard@circumstances.run in a modern game development context this is even worse, because @kenney@mastodon.gamedev.place is a notoriously extremely nice developer and asset designer who has a gigantic library of royalty-free assets they’ve created that a ton of developers use for prototyping and game jams. small and solo dev teams owe Kenney a gigantic debt of gratitude. duke 3d was uhh so it was good for the time and the build engine was nice for what it was. unlike with the doom and quake engines I don’t think anyone’s doing modern commercial build engine development, neither the game nor the engine have aged all that well. there’s a few modern takes on duke 3d, almost always with better gameplay and a better protagonist on a different engine. it doesn’t surprise me that the guy who helped develop the game with the stripper and boomer quip mechanics is into LLMs and really defensive about it though, I’d honestly be more surprised if he didn’t suck
