Nearly 1,500 properties bought using first home buyers’ 5% deposit scheme converted into investments "Barbara Pocock, the Greens’ housing spokesperson, said the scheme was supposed to help first home buyers on lower incomes to get a roof over their heads. “It shouldn’t benefit the wealthy and property investors,” Pocock said. The Albanese government amended the scheme so it no longer excluded high-income earners in October 2025. Since then, it had enabled more than 5,600 home purchases each month on average, compared with just over 3,400 the year before." https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2026/aug/06/first-home-buyers-deposit-scheme-investment-property #LaborFail #Housing #Homelessness #HumanRights #News #AUSPol

@CanvasesByPeter@mementomori.social 1500 out of 208,000. That's less than 1%. 1% of people buying a house then their circumstances change and they move is entirely reasonable. What are they supposed to do, sell up, pay a 20% deposit plus at least $50,000 in stamp duty to buy a different house? Even if they did, that would just generate "1500 house flipped used scheme" But sure, let's make it so those people are forced to live there no matter what. Very fair and reasonable.
