@revk@toot.me.uk @snaprails@cupoftea.social I never understood why the call didn't clear as soon as either end hung up. There are some security problems with allowing the call to stay up after hangup!

@steve@mastodon.nexusuk.org @revk@toot.me.uk It was a function of how the electromechanical equipment worked. It could be useful if you wanted to move to a different phone on the same line on an incoming call, e.g. Answer in the kitchen but carry on in the living room. It was carried over to digital exchanges but because it could also be a problem, particularly with scam callers, Called Sub Clearing was introduced. That would have been very difficult to do with Strowger.
