The eSIM is a stupid invention. The whole point of a SIM is that you can transfer your number to another phone if, for instance, a phone dies. You know what you can’t do with a dead phone? Transfer an eSIM. #enshittification

@colorblindcowboy@mastodon.art I have heard about these eSims. Probably an Elon Musk idea. Up here we had a separate network that interfaced with hardcoded IDs in phones, no sim cards. It was discarded as a terrible idea, though I used it happily with my local bell for years and years. I was also a perfectly happy ADSL customer, and my cable modem friends were holding imprompty dick-measuring contests with our speedtest scores every time they came over and asked how I could stand it being so slow, and I'm like, we download movies from Usenet, dude, why do you need to download it in one minute instead of ten?
