  @EveHasWords@toot.cat I am interested in this subject. My father used to own a fabrication shop in Oregon for welding, assembly of tractor and trailer parts, and stuff like that. I was a true shop kid and I know a fair amount about metals and manufacturing. I have a lot to write here: The US Treasury was ordered to stop minting pennies and I think they did stop minting them, or they're setting about to stop minting pennies because Trump is trying to run everything through acting directors and the firm application of fiat rule where a lot of people do not know what's going on while they are doing their jobs. Yes, you're also correct in the sense that everything Donald J. Trump touches or gets involved with basically just "dies" because he is a truly awful person with no moral compass. He is certainly not a functional leader who is operating on all cylinders. Despite this major weakness, all of the bureaucracies on the eastern seaboard have to keep trudging on in life because both "the law" and US Congress utterly failed the American public in the area of accountability and authenticity, esp. during the 2024 presidential election. Please be advised that what I'm now writing is perceived by intellectuals and the establishment as "going down the rabbit hole..." America's world order pretends as if he is legitimate and while in many ways he is not legitimate according to the letter of the law, it's a carefully narrated facade that they must maintain because the alternative is to have the CIA and NSA declare the 2024 election void and that it was stolen (it was stolen in certain ways within the swing states) and have the US military take temporary control of our federal government until US Congress forces out Trump or sacks him. Oh yeah. This is 'Murica and so none of that is happening because of the lousy people in charge of protecting us, such as DHS and the former senator and nimrod Markwayne Mullin — who in principle refuses to direct more money to CISA, Cyber Command, and our national defense which is supposed to /stop/ hackers in advance from screwing or directly altering the results that electronic voting machines output in the first place. What a lot of people don't care to know is the insurrection did not end on January 6th, 2021. Somebody should ask Peter Thiel how Musk and him are indirectly connected to Pro V&V. They are the elections test lab that issued those "de minimis" updates to allow the theft through miscalibrated voting machines to occur. This actually has something to do with your penny question and observations. The wheels of bureaucracy have slowed — as of late. Therefore, I suspect many professionals located in and around Washington, D.C. who typically do not speak or write about changes in politics feel that Trump is maintaining an illegal presidency. Nobody listens to what people such as me write about online, though — so I am all good here. I will try to remain calm now because life can be pretty tough on myself and others, sometimes. Trump does need to have the book of rules thrown at him. He may still get what he deserves. 🤪 I deviated quite a bit. Last of all, I'm going back to the points you were making before. I read online that the US Treasury has wanted to stop minting pennies for a long time. Since 1982, the cost of manufacturing pennies through using the US Treasury's coining presses is greater than the cost of the zinc alloy that makes up one penny. All US pennies are now 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper.
