But I keep thinking about the company that wants to make nurses bid against each other driving their wages lower and lower just to have a shift. It feels like a fire to me, in a shirtwaist factory. At some point the creative innovations of the market sound like rolling back civilization rather than creating it. 4/

    Another idea that has been sticking with me comes from a more conservative friend. (Maybe my conservative friends aren't all that conservative... but play along) He was talking about the 1950s and the dream of having a family and a house and how that was all gone. And I was pointing out that for most people it was never here. "but that's when more people had it than do now, more people were middle class, you could start your life." I think he has a point. 5/5

    @futurebird@sauropods.win For an extra shot of depression fuel, up here in Canada, and as often as not when I talk about the creeping privatization with health care workers, they turn into rah rah cheerleaders for it, because they believe they will make more money in that scenario. Evil is so fucking banal sometimes.
