@foolishowl@social.coop Oh, yeah, it's "a rising tide" theory, the liberal version of "trickle down," which might have been true at some point. Growth means jobs. Everybody likes jobs! More factories! Data centers are just factories, right?
I think it brings into focus just how out of date and alienated these people are and how the only people they listen to on a regular basis are CEOs and lobbyists.

@gwynnion@mastodon.social I've worked in a few factories and I do think data centers are a lot like factories in many important respects, particularly that they're fortress/prisons holding concentrated capital. The thing that's changed is I think that common sense is starting to reject the idea that accumulating capital will ultimately benefit us.
