@gwynnion@mastodon.social I've worked in a few factories and I do think data centers are a lot like factories in many important respects, particularly that they're fortress/prisons holding concentrated capital.
The thing that's changed is I think that common sense is starting to reject the idea that accumulating capital will ultimately benefit us.

@foolishowl@social.coop @gwynnion@mastodon.social The problem with comparing a factory to a datacenter is that the factory employs hundreds or thousands of local workers, where the datacenter employs maybe a dozen or two, and potentially adds a few jobs worldwide for the remote admins running the machines. The impact specifically on local labor is nothing alike between the two.
