@marick@mstdn.social I wasn’t really thinking of in group / out group when I wrote my snarky post. That’s a valid / valuable distinction.
In retrospect I suppose my point was more that
1 - not all protest needs to immediately cause large, structural social or mindset changes
2 - having fun is a legitimate and effective activity because Terrible People tend to be distinctly Not Fun
3 - I get a little annoyed by cynical responses to idealistic but well meant but not counter productive efforts to protest because if it’s not detrimental to whatever cause it is we’re supporting I think we need to be nice about it
3a) partially because maybe their in group is different than mine or yours

@marick@mstdn.social I am of two minds here as well honestly. I suppose I have to begrudgingly admit that wearing a cone on your hat these days is not enough to get the government to send the goons out with clubs or guns. The counter factual there being wearing that wearing an inflatable dinosaur outfit seems to be enough to get ICE hit squads to be sent after you, so perhaps being distinctly unserious is still or yet again a very valid approach to protest.
