@colorblindcowboy@mastodon.art This is absolutely true. Most likely I'm gonna be standing up an Ubuntu server again soon, cause they're pushing into implementing it with Local Inference prime. But again, when you're talking about "What is the command to set my Wifi country code" or any such single-answer, no-fuzz question, to ignore the answer when presented is basically to hamper your own productivity out of spite, unfortunately. The bottle is dumped, all that remains is how much own personal water I want to burn along with it. Similar dynamics are at play if you're trying to learn how to 3D model or any other complex tech skill - the AI will have the right answers, quickly. This is something we need, and we need it running Local. We have all been running GPUs and CPUs all this time, the datacentres are the only unnecessarily evil here. Writing is a whole other thing and I've seen nothing good from AI - quite the opposite, I can spot it in a second and it raises my bile. But the vibe coders are gonna vibe, no matter what. I spent years feeling the pain of knowing that I could solve a lot of my own digital problems, if I knew how to code, and eventually the pain got bad enough that I started putting the effort. Someone who's gotten the same thing with zero effort probably won't give that up. But if they were to add some mental work to the process, they could actually get something out of it that they can keep.
