Is there a private YouTube client for smart TVs, or a way to sideload one? :boosts_okgay: #YouTube #SmartTV #Privacy

@CrebboElodie@transfem.social newpipe actually works on smart TVs (if they run Android TV of course) but is a bit wonky with navigation through a remote from what i’ve tested before also it’s most likely you’ll have to install a file manager, upload the apk to a cloud provider, and then retrieve said apk from the cloud through the file manager (it’s a bit of a mouthful, sorry). or you can just install F-Droid through this method and then get the youtube clients, like newpipe, from there there’s also just putting the APKs on a flash or hard drive and plugging it into the TV, provided you have any of those lying around

  • @CrebboElodie@transfem.social if you can dig up a device (smart tv/dvd player) with an old enough YouTube app that it connects to gdata.YouTube.com (aka, is broken) and you can change the DNS on it, you may be in luck once the thing I’m working on is in a usable state :P
