Unfortunately the experience of taking a bike on NS has not been good. We ended up getting left behind because of full trains 4 times this weekend. Seems they do not account for increased demand in the summer months, and don't run longer trains with more space. Very frustrating experience. Just another way in which trying to run the system at 100% capacity breaks things and leads to bad experience. Have @BicycleDutch@mastodon.social or @notjustbikes@social.notjustbikes.com had any experience with this? I'm not sure how technically possible it is to couple different types of trainsets together, but maybe now that they are retiring older trains, they could remove the interiors of some of the old trains and then couple them in the summer months to provide extra capacity for this.

  • @danbrotherston@types.pl @BicycleDutch@mastodon.social I rarely take my bike on the train in the Netherlands. I use OV Fiets instead. In general, I don't think that bikes on trains is scalable; they take up too much space. They also consume elevator time that should be for people who need the elevator. I would rather see NS expand OV Fiets (add more bikes, electric bikes, bikes with kids' seats, etc.) rather than trying to make it easier to take personal bike on the train.
