Unfortunately the experience of taking a bike on NS has not been good. We ended up getting left behind because of full trains 4 times this weekend. Seems they do not account for increased demand in the summer months, and don't run longer trains with more space. Very frustrating experience. Just another way in which trying to run the system at 100% capacity breaks things and leads to bad experience. It's interesting, I've come to realise that (at least for applications where weight/volume is not the dominating factor) one major factor in the economics of battery storage for energy (whether in grid situation, in vehicles of any type, etc.) is how frequently that battery is cycled. This is interesting because at some point I thought fewer cycles were better because batteries would last longer. But batteries already now last a very long time.
